From today, Jumbo customers in Nieuwegein can charge their electric vehicles while shopping. The stores at De Walnootgaarde and Galecop are the first Jumbo locations to be equipped with their own fast chargers. Soon, fast chargers will also be installed at Jumbo stores in Heel (Dorpsstraat), Ter Apel (Nederveen Cappelstraat), Krimpen aan den IJssel (De Korf) and Deurne (Schelde).
In collaboration with PowerGo, Jumbo aims to equip a large number of its stores in the Netherlands and Belgium with charging points. Anrico Maat, Sales & Operations Director at Jumbo Supermarkets, explains: “More and more of our customers drive electric vehicles. Now, while doing their shopping, they can easily and quickly charge their car at one of our charging stations. We are working hard to reduce the CO2 emissions of our stores, while at the same time helping our customers reduce their own emissions.”
Paul Sieljes, Head of Operations at PowerGo: “PowerGo is installing fast chargers for Jumbo across the Netherlands and Belgium, powered by solar energy generated in the Netherlands. This allows us to make great progress in expanding the fast-charging network while offering EV drivers a sustainable and user-friendly solution. We are proud to see the first locations now operational and look forward to the further rollout of our collaboration with Jumbo.”

The average charging time corresponds with the average shopping time at Jumbo, meaning that in many cases, vehicles are fully charged by the time customers finish their groceries.
